Our Mission

One story isn't enough to understand a person or a place, so we should be sharing as many stories as possible.

The Women in Coffee Project aims to create a platform for women who are leaders as coffee producers, importers, and exporters to offer their perspectives in this complex industry.

We rely on social media to help us bridge the gap between consuming and producing countries and give all of us the chance to see, hear, and speak to one another.

We believe this space for dialogue should exist outside of business relationships because it can resist inherent power dynamics in the pre-existing structure of coffee supply streams.* It can offer a subtle but radical force to engage with and celebrate each others' differences and similarities.

Our long-term — year-round, ongoing — goals are to promote awareness of gender equity issues in coffee-producing countries, be a resource for our community on how to engage with gender equity, and host panel events annually for female leaders at origin to share their experiences.

*Of course, you can also engage within your own supply streams. This space should serve to complement and counterbalance activism within radical business practices.

Listen

We ask permission to interview women in all roles to learn more about how gender equity expresses itself for all supply stream actors around the globe.

Engage

We host initiatives to foster community, with the goal of breaking structural or competitive silos designed by the patriarchy & capitalism to keep us apart.

Empower

We host quarterly events to connect women coffee professionals, investigate nontraditional pathways for success, and encourage each other’s growth.
